Abstract

Protective effects of flavonoids on cell membrane in the photohemolysis experiments. The protective effects of 24 flavonoids against singlet oxygen - induced photohemolysis of rabbit erythrocytes were investigated and compared with their antioxidant activities. 1. All the flavonoid aglycons investigted besides flavone and 7, 8- benzoflavone showed thd dose - dependant protective effects. Especially galagin showed the most pronounced effect under the experimental condition. 2. The order of the radical- scavenging activities of flavonoids was as follow (-)EGCG) flavonols)flavanols)flavones)flavanonols. The radical- scavenging activities of flavonoid glycosides were not different from those of their aglycons. 3. When added after irradiation, flavonoids did not alter the photohemolysis pattern of control. In this study, several antioxidant were found and it was newly found that photohemolysis experiment is a convenient, reproductive diagnostic method in the screening and researching the compound which has antioxidant activity or protective effect on cell membrane against active oxygen species.

Abstract

The in Vitro chemosensitivity of fibroblast cell strains was determined using a semiautomated tetrazoliurn - based colorimetric assay(MTT assay) to 16 cosmetic materials. This assay is useful method to evaluate toxic effects of the chemicals. From assay results, we determined that the preservatives are more toxic than moisteurizers. The chemicals in the same group have a different toxicity. That is, in preservatives, Germall-115 is more toxic than Danisol - M, - P, and in surfactant, sodium lauryl sulfate than Myrj 52, and in moisteurizers, 1, 3 - butylene glycol is more safe than the others. When the results from this assay for preservatives were compared with patch test results, good correlation was observed. Forthemore, this assay method can be used together with patch test for the evaluation of the chemical toxicity, particularly in cosmetic field.

Abstract

Inclusion complex formation of octyldimethl p-aminobenzoate with β-cyclodextrin in aqueous solution and in the solid state was studied by the solubility method, spectroscopic(UV, FT-IR) and X-ray diffractometry. The solid complex of octyldimethy p-aminobenzoate with p-cyclodextrin was obtained in molar ratio of 1 : 2(guest/host). A spatial relationship between host and guest molecule was clearly reflected in the magnitude of the apparent stability constant (K') and in the stoichiometry of the inclusion complex. Furthermore, a typical type Bs phase-solubility diagram was obtained for octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate and β-cyclodextrin in water at 25℃. The results indicated that the solubility of the guest molecule was higher by the formation of β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex
